What is the Global Memories Working Group ?
The Global Memories working group is interested in the diverse and multidirectional ways in which memories travel across the globe, memories that exist across local, transcultural, transnational and planetary scales. How are ideas, objects and events remembered in various societies and cultures? How do memories change when they are transferred into new contexts, that is, how are local contexts always already implicated in what we problematically define as ‘global memories’? What defines global memories, and how are they tied up in tendencies to universalize and homogenize discrete acts of remembrance into generalized norms, templates and frameworks? These questions and many more preoccupy us in the study of ‘global memories’, as we
